Introduction
 
For this project I decided to research special effects. I decided to choose this topic because I wanted to learn about the special effects process and how the effects wizards create these astonishing effects.

The world of special effects is large and still expanding from the days when computers were first used to add to the existing special effects. One of the first movies to use computers to create special effects was the Lucasfilm production Star Wars (1977), which utilized the existing technology for laser blasts and advanced pyrotechnics.
From then on, computers became a more vital part of moviemaking, with creating dinosaurs, sinking ships, stampeding elephants, intergalactic dogfights, and aliens of all sorts.
 
The Process
My main question was; What are the characteristics of the special effects process?
As an example I wI'll look at a scene from the movie Jumanji (1994). In this praticular scene, a bunch of computer generated animals run amok along a suburban street, destroying many cars. The trouble was how they would create these animals and make the cars look trampled on. Another problem was for them to rig the cars to collapse automatically. They would also have to create accurate reproductions of the animals themselves. To do this, the ILM team set out to a zoo with all the animals they wanted to replicate, and observed the looks of the different animals, such as shape and texture. After creating the duplicates on computer, they took the real time footage and converted it to wireframe; then inserted the animals to create a truly remarkable effect.

For my graph; I asked some people what they think the best part of a movie is.
The choices were; Plot (6), Characters (2), Stars (9), and Special Effects (3).
